etnies
Innovation, sustainability and products that are tailored to the needs and challenges of modern skateboarding are on top of etnies’ daily to-do list. This is probably what made etnies the brand that it is today. You can shop the complete selection of etnies skate shoes, streetwear and accessories easily in the skatedeluxe skate shop.
From Etnics to etnies - the history behind the brand
etnies Footwear, now headquartered in Lake Forest, California, began its conquest in France in 1986 under the name "Etnics". When Pierre André Sénizergues took on the job in 1989 and began expanding to the USA, "Etnics" quickly became "etnies", making it one of the first and so far the biggest footwear brands by American shoe company Sole Technology, Inc.
As a former pro skater and repeat world champion in skateboarding, Pierre André Sénizergues knew the needs and demands for “work” shoes in the skating world. That meant robust shoes, both lightweight and comfortable with a good cushioning system. In every etnies shoe lies a long history, aw well as high attention to detail.
Innovation never sleeps - etnies features & technologies
The technologies and features of their skate shoes mirror that etnies are dead serious about what they’re doing. Hidden toe caps as you find them in the Jameson XT models or the long-living, fused-on toe caps of the Marana Bloodline guarantee nearly unmatched durability. The in-house developed STI Evolution Foam in many etnies shoe’s insoles provides impact protection. Also, you’ll find maximum comfort when off the board in the etnies sneaker models like the Scout or the Cyprus.
The brand also doesn’t hesitate to improve already established models and for example, has teamed up with the car tire manufacturer Michelin to make the outsole of the etnies Marana even more durable.
"These shoes are tough as f**k!" - Chris Joslin on the etnies Marana
In order to test how etnies footwear performs on a skateboard, we did some extensive wear tests and reviews. We'll tell you this much: They did not disappoint! If you want to learn more about etnies’ technologies, take a look at our skate shoe wiki.
etnies not only established a name for themselves by the performance of their shoes for skateboarders but also with their top-notch skate team that harbours riders like Chris Joslin, Barney Page, Nick Garcia, Nassim Lachab, Jake Wooton, Andy Anderson, Aurelien Giraud & Julian Lewis. Additionally, etnies offers a variety of women skate shoes that not only riders like Fabiana Delfino & Savannah Headden appreciate.
Sustainability & responsibility - the etnies philosophy
As you can assume by the brand’s former name, etnies emphasizes an ethical and responsible interaction with the environment. Projects like “Buy a Shoe, Plant a Tree” take this a step further than only ensuring legal working conditions and origin of materials.
Since 2011, etnies has planted a tree in Costa Rica, Brazil or Africa for every shoe sold from a chosen product line. By 2015, etnies had already had planted over 1 million trees through the reforestation program in collaboration with their project partner “Trees for the Future”. But this doesn’t mark the end of the program. With every pair of the etnies Jameson 2 Eco, you can become part of the project.
