The right pants have become almost as important for skaters in recent years as a good pair of skate shoes. While some swear by the loose fit and special models, others keep it more classic with work pants and jeans. Generally, the jeans and pants in our shop can be skated in by everyone. But there are also special pants for female skaters. Here you'll find all the information you need about the skate pants that you can find at skatedeluxe.
Everything you need to know about skate pants
Loose, straight or slim - find the right cut for your skate pants
The fact that there are different fits of pants is not news. Generally, it's about how wide a pair of pants is. That's why we've roughly divided the jeans and pants in the skatedeluxe skate shop into loose, straight and slim.
Usually, the deciding factor in the classification is the leg opening (or cuff circumference). The larger the leg opening, the wider the skate trousers usually are. You can find more information about this in the respective product descriptions of our pants. This way you can quickly and easily compare them with your own pants.
Tip: The leg opening equals the diameter. The easiest way to measure the opening is to lay your pants flat on the floor, measure at the end of the leg and double the value.
Loose fit pants for skating
Loose fit pants or "baggy pants" are very wide cut and have a lot of space at the thigh, calf and hip. Thus, these pants offer maximum freedom of movement and are ideal for skating. Often, heavy cotton fabric is used in their manufacture, which guarantees long durability.

Straight fit pants for skating
Pants that run straight from the waistband to the ankle are called straight fit or regular. These pants are stylish classics that you can't go wrong with. They are often made from materials like cotton, and occasionally polyester and stretch components.

Slim fit pants for skating
These are pants with a tighter fit and a rather figure-hugging cut. For more freedom of movement and comfort, these pants often have flexible stretch components. Style tip: Skate shoes with a lot of padding or a wide silhouette look rather unflattering combined with slim fit pants.

The special shape: tapered fit pants
A special cut is a taper or tapered fit. These skate pants only become narrower from the knee, which is why the leg opening of these pants is slightly smaller. Loose and straight, as well as slim fit pants can have a "taper". You can usually recognize these pants by the addition of "taper" in the product name or in the product description.

Jeans, chino, cargo & more: all skate pants styles at a glance
Besides the fit, an important aspect when buying your new pants for skating is of course the style. The different styles of pants are a result of the material used, the placement and type of pockets and other elements. No matter which style appeals to you, all of these pants are suitable for skateboarding.
Chinos & Work Pants - from classy to robust
The term chino is actually used to describe lightweight pants made of a special twill fabric. However, the term is also often used for pants with side pockets and piped back pockets. You'll find this style of pants mostly in our chinos & work pants.
Work pants are especially ideal for skating due to their particularly robust material, which is often reinforced with polyester. For work and chino pants there are also a few special types that are becoming increasingly popular among skaters:
- Double knee pants are characterized by reinforced knee panels and are particularly durable in this area.
- Carpenter pants have the classic pockets for carpenter tools on the thigh. Convenient for stowing small items.
- Surf pants is a term used for lightweight, wide-leg chinos with an elastic waistband. It won't get more comfortable than this.

Jeans - the classic made of denim
Jeans are characteristically made of denim and often come in 5-pocket style: two pockets in the back, two in the front and an additional pocket on the right side of the hip. They are particularly suitable for skating due to their already robust denim fabric.
Recommended models: jeans from Levi's, Volcom or Carhartt WIP

No surprise: cord pants are made of corduroy. Due to its production and properties, corduroy is particularly durable and therefore not only suitable for work clothes, but also for skateboarding. You can get cord pants at skatedeluxe in different styles: 5-pocket, chino and more.

Cargos are cotton pants that have two additional side pockets at knee level. Thus, these pants have a lot of storage space, which means you can almost leave your shoulder bags or backpacks at home when going skating. Some cargo pants have drawstrings at the leg openings, which can quickly turn a long cargo into shorts.

Skaters have always been special in the choice of their pants and pioneers of some trends. However, the following characteristics of skateboard pants are still important: freedom of movement and robust materials. "Skater pants", which you can shop at skatedeluxe, pay special attention to these factors and ensure that your pants endure each session and are long-lasting.
Sure, you can still skate with pretty much any pants, a skirt, a dress, shorts, or if you must, without pants. But a good pair of skate pants that you feel comfortable in will offer some protection from failed tricks and abrasions when you fall, as well as a certain amount of confidence.
By the way, they're called skate pants, not skater pants. Even though these pants are worn by skaters, the name refers to "pants for skating".
What pants are best for skating?
There isn't just one pair of great skate pants, because that is absolutely a matter of taste, bodies differ and everyone feels comfortable in other pants. Right now, very loose, baggy pants are popular with skaters, but that can change quickly.
Skate pants must not restrict your movement, nor bother or hinder you while skating. You probably can't move properly in pants that are too tight, while pants that are too big are just annoying when they slip. Regardless of the fit, your pants should sit appropriately on your hips.
Finding the right pant size
The first and most important step to finding skate pants that fit you is to find your waist size (W). Measure your hip circumference at the widest point with a tape measure and compare it with our size charts. You can also find a short form of the tables on the product detail pages of the pants in the skatedeluxe skate shop. If you are between two sizes, we recommend the larger size. If necessary, you can tighten them with a belt.
The second optional step is the inside leg length (L) of your new pants. Some pants and jeans come in different lengths. The value given is approximately the inside leg length in inches - for example - L34. This is especially helpful for skaters with long legs because pants with a standard length are usually L32 and turn out to be too short for some people. A special case are so-called "cropped pants". These are cut extra short.
Of course, it's easier the other way around: if a pair of pants is a little too long for you, you can simply roll them up and go for the "cuffed pants look" or grab a pair of scissors and give your skate pants a "DIY crop".
If you're still unsure about all the pant variations and need some more info on individual models, our customer service will be happy to help.
